Yes, I read the book. No, I did not expect the movie to contain every detail that a 700+ page thriller contains. I've read other reviews that threw around the idea of a mini series. That could work, but so could this movie if it had used the actual story in the book. It worked well for "Clear and Present Danger", "The Hunt for Red October", and "The Sum of All Fears". All were movie adaptations of lengthy thriller novels by Tom Clancy, and all did an admirable job of telling the same story as the book.
The book was stuffed full of tough guy action, but it also had moments that would rip your heart out and bring you to tears. It had one of the most redeeming love stories I've ever read. And you simply can not find another author who surpasses Clancy's attention to detail and character depth.
This movie had none of that. I was truly rooting for this movie to be good. I, and every friend and coworker I have spoken to about the movie, am so tired of the politically correct movies being churned out. The book wasn't racist or politically incorrect, so there would have been no fear of offending a group had that story been used. In the book there were several strong, capable, and powerful female, black, and Latino characters.
