Loved the Latin representation on screen ! The diversity, the vague storylines, the artistic choreography. I gave it 3 stars because I felt like the title should’ve been “ El Barrio or Spanish Harlem” due to the melting pot narratives of the other Latin cultures showcased in the film… I grew up in the heights “Washington Heights aka The Heights” everyone knows that is a mini Dominican Republic. There wasn’t much representation of the Dominican culture. Not one merengue, or bachata, not even a platano made an appearance , just a couple of flags here and there. -the true struggles of Latinos was slightly covered in the movie. The movie was good. But was disappointed to hear 2 hours of singing and 15minutes of a plot. I hope for future productions to highlight the other perspectives of the Latin community. Because this one was a filtered version.

i thought i was going to fall asleep after waking up at 6am, working a whole day shift getting out at 5pm, stuck in traffic on a rainy NYC day, rushed to Bjs for food shopping, went home put away groceries had dinner, then sat down at the movies comfy recliners at 9:30pm and my eyes were so wide open. This film was beautifully crafted and executed. Angelina Jolie triumphs again. The storyline, graphics, message so beautifully presented. Favorite movie of 2019 by far.
