I've never posted a review about a movie before. I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to films, but something about Into the Forest has been bothering me since I watched it two days ago. Actually, theres a couple things.
I loved the beginning, the lack of info about what caused the blackout, the *spoilers* death of the father, leaving these two young women with no survival experience to fend for themselves, the sisters learning to live with each other in such a stressful situation. It was good! And interesting! The acting was phenomenal, and I've always loved Ellen Page.
And then there was the rape scene. If you need a rape scene in a movie, especially one as graphic as what we got, you're a bad writer. Its unnecessary. Then, the weirdly pro-life message of the oldest sister deciding to keep her baby despite their situation, despite telling her sister mere months ago that they didnt need a baby. Despite the risk it puts to all of them, and their apparent lack of resources.
Then, when they return to the house only for One Hallway to crumble, and the only clue as to what's wrong with it is what could easily be the smell of rotting wood, the oldest sister panics. I'm thinking, maybe it's her anxiety from her trauma? Maybe that's a new obstacle?
Nope.
Instead, they pack up what they have, burn down the house with what little gas they have left, and decide to live in the woods with a NEWBORN BABY.
Horrible. Unless you watch the movie up until before the rape scene then quit, it's not really worth the time.
