Star Trek works best when it is episodic in nature, though not necessarily with a "planet of the week" theme. First season was captivating but by the time the Zindi became a recurring theme, it was all over bar the shouting. Quite rightly nixed after the 4th season, couldnt live up to its predecessors' writing. The characters were well written and were etched out by the time the 2nd/3rd season got underway, wish they had given the writing a bit more flexibility of range instead of grtting stuck in a rut with one species as the enemy. Some episodes barely took the story forward.
