Life Sentence is a show with a message for women. The life sentence to a woman is marriage. First, Wes was left at the altar. Stella falls for Dr. Perfect, every woman's dream. Cancer free she doesn't love Wes the same, she wants to be free to explore. Most of the female characters seek to avoid the life sentence and young children seem to be a hindrance. On the other hand men are portrayed as desirous of the life sentence as they set the goals with no input from their partners. So, Life Sentence is not a couples love story. It is a story telling us women should pursue their individual dreams without compromise. What it doesn't tell us is whether we end up alone with no one. Or maybe like Stella you go from one fairy tale to another.
