For movie lovers who haven't yet seen this -- you're not yet a true movie lover until you have. It's one of the most emotionally pure movies of the silent era, and many would say -- reasonably -- of any era. It would be a long time until another actor, actress, brought to the the screen the kind of sensitivity, nuance and psychic truth we see in Renee Maria Falconetti. And there's the moody black and white photography, the expressionistic lighting. . . It creates the sense of another world. No wonder this film influenced many important directors who came after.
