I loved this book, although it made me sad, angry and a little depressed at times. It reminded me of another awesome book A Little Life - tragic, beautiful, loveable, flawed characters. Although depressing at times, Stuart was able to alleviate the sadness and awfulness by quirky humour - only a Scotsman seems able to do. Having left Scotland as a child in the late 70’s, I can picture the desolate scenery and situations, but can also remember the little things that make life slightly bearable. Can’t wait to read Douglas Stuart’s next book, whatever it may be. His style of writing is beautiful and so in touch with his surroundings.
