I remember watching this movie the first time at age 3, I absolutely loved the cute penguins, funny dancing, and catchy songs. However, being so young I didn't understand much of the themes this movie was trying to portray, and I find it insane now how so many people are saying this movie makes children super depressed. I never got depressed by this move at my young age. This movie always made me happy and cheer on the penguins- I think it's because I didn't understand the much darker themes. Watching 2006 Happy Feet 14 years later, during 2020 when a pandemic is happening, much of the world is going through an economic crisis, and global warming is becoming an irreversible problem, this movie really gives me fond memories and tackles the effects of humanity on animals in such a way that is both fun to watch and mentions to serious themes of family, being outcasted, and our political system in such a meticulous way.
