OK concept with some moments of clever enough problem solving outweighed by simple story line and attempt to create tension by overdone portrayals of helpless panic and incompetence. Skilled deep water divers aren't usually given to bouts of hysteria and reckless carelessness. A location with more picturesque underwater scenery would also have been more engaging.

Some funny parts and overall passably entertaining, but it's a see once movie that doesn't quite work. The role played by Channing is just a little too goofy to be convincing. Sandra's jump suit is unflattering, many gags are just too slapstick, and the age difference is too obvious to convince of a love interest. She could literally be his mom. Daniel Radcliffe has some solid moments. Great actors abound but this movie stitches them together without using their talents to any great extent.

Look beyond the elaborate settings and costumes, and this movie is silly. There is little depth of plot and it amazes me that it could have received many positive reviews. Perhaps it is supposed to straddle genres - which means it does none of them well. A movie to miss.

The performance of Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet are outstanding, so far as I got through this film. Without them it probably would have been a total flop left on the cutting room floor. Frankly, I found it boring. When I watch a movie its to be engaged and entertained. To me, it's humdrum. Budget. No, I didn't get to the end. But if I want almost reality I can just stay in reality. I don't see cutting edge creativity - just a minor twist on ordinary. Sorry, not a movie for me.

The only adverse comment is that Lady Gaga is no Streisand and, in my view, doesn't have the finesse or control when doing the power songs. Otherwise an excellent and convincing movie which explores ambition, jealousy, and love.

A well developed plot that touches on exploration of the consequences of the thoughtless stupidity of terrorism. The action is realistic and Chan and Brosnan are convincing in their respective roles. The plot has sufficient complexity to entertain but also provoke thought for those who look a little deeper. Good movie.

A great movie with well developed and engaging plot and dynamite ending that had me asking if it was based on true events. Sadly not, the big old USA political system driven by cash from the pro gun lobby continues to defend it's right to a gun related annual homicide rate of over 4.5 per 100,000 (that's 45+ per million people) compared with Australia's 0.18 - which is still too high, but way better. US stats on annual school and some other shootings are displayed. It's mind blowing. Jessica Chastain's performance is superb, I was totally absorbed - and that's from someone who isn't normally interested in political movies. The movie is also an inadvertent warning to other countries not to adopt US style politics. But that is another story. A big thumbs up.

The underlying moral coding of this film (somewhat like the Notebook) is that we should somehow regard a spoiled narcissistic female who goes on a month long sexfest with another guy as soon as her adoring rich fiancee isn't there (and fully intends to pretend to her trusting partner that it never happened when he returns), as some kind of heroine - and be in sympathy that when she does finally fess up, has to choose who to stay with. Presumably it's the ethic that if she's attractive she is entitled to be totally self absorbed. If a guy did that he would be portrayed as a villain of the first order. A predictable film about shallow people, dressed up as a romance - but only if you don't think very hard.
