I highly recommend this book to those who want an insight into how the modern world actually works in practice. Richard explores the often contradictory nature of risk and opportunity through the prism of several emerging and established markets world wide. Part memoir, part social history and part travelblog, he has penned a page turner.
Its also an unusual book. While one gets a sense of the work of Control Risks, this is no exposé of murky corporate shenanigans nor a 'business school' study of the risk consulting sector. Nor is it an autobiography. Indeed it will be interesting to see where bookshops place it on their shelves; prominently I would suggest.
Notwithstanding this students of international business and politics will learn a great deal about the reality of the world at the intersection of politics, business and human dynamics. The rest of us will be treated to an insightful, thought provoking and at times hilarious perspective on life today. BUY.
