In 1935 here in the United States; The Supreme Court declared the National Industrial Recovery Act unconstitutional. FDR launched more programs focused on the poor, the unemployed, and farmers.
The American public went to the movies!
Life was hard and work, well someone else had the job you knew you could do. Yet if you had a quarter maybe you found it in the gutter or the bottom of your purse, the movies were a ticket to 90 minute vacation from life.
The average wage paid 25 cents per hour. The cost of a Matinee was 24 cents, to see Douglas Fairbanks Jr. in “Man of the Moment” was a great deal.
This is a British Romantic movie or in the United States
a “Screw Ball Comedy”
Man of the Moment is directed by Monty Banks and stars
Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Laura La Plante, Margaret Lockwood, and Claude Hulbert.
To be the audience for this movie you have to put yourself in the year1935. During this period my father was 23 yrs old and my mother was 10 yrs old.
The viewing public needed a rescue, a ticket to a life which allowed characters driven by impulse and reaction; this is what moves the female lead Laura La Plante.
I ask you who tries to drown their self in broad daylight just because the boss you dream about likes your coworker instead of you. Off on the road which follows the river a knight in shining amour drives up and saves her.
This is where Douglas comes to save the day. On the other hand she is ungrateful to say the least. One more thing Douglas is getting married in the morning. This is light hearted fun. I recommend watching it.
Life needs Hero’s Mr. Fairbanks Jr is now one of mine.
