To Kill a Mockingbird reiterates the prejudice, bigotry and racism that was and we know is, entrenched in the South.
It specifically points out through Mrs. Merriwether's outpouring of sympathy for the squalid conditions of the ill-fated Mrunas in Africa, the ignorance and hypocrisy within whites and some religious groups regarding by cooly ignoring the blatantly absurd conviction of a clearly innocent impoverished blackman and his sentence to death in their own backyard.
A fascinating re-read after at least 60 years.
Maybe it should be a required adult re-read.
