Genuinely feel let down by this game. 7 whole years of hype wasted.
It felt like the whole game was just one big mess, I played more time in-game with a character I didn't remotely care about, compared to the original characters from the first game.
Throughout you meet multiple survivors from different backgrounds, with dry, boring backstories that don't even feel fully explained, so you struggle to sympathise with them, and when they're darting around as you try to remain stealthy the immersion is just broken.
The game itself could be explained start to finish through an hour long cut scene, however it's split up between them and dragged out with repetitive combat, that doesn't really change until towards the end.
It seems like they were just trying to ram emotion down your throat and force you to question yourself throughout the whole thing, almost too much. Trans characters, pregnant women, all feel forcefully put in the game to enhance some form of emotion for the characters, when really its a dog-eat-dog world in the zombie apocalypse, it doesn't matter what/who you are, if you raise your gun to someone expect them to shoot back. It feels way too politically driven.
Anyone new to the series and having not played the first one will be captivated by it, but for die hard fans like myself, it's quite the opposite.
The graphics are unreal, granted, a lot of work went into the way the game looked, and the physics, but that seems to be the only sales point for me, compared to the narrative which is much more important, in my opinion.
It didn't feel like a 'Part 2' to the game that booted the series off, at all.
RIP The Last Of Us series, and to what you could've been.
