I have just watched this excellent film at an independent cinema .The drama is intelligent in its unfolding tensions within the story ..we make discoveries ..revelations in fact during the extensive courtroom latter part of the film the female leads in the story are superb as also is the boy...please watch while you have the chance .Pthere is English language and oart subtitles .Its well paced ....Faultless

The staging and presentation was first class though the performances were variable
Lionel Richie was poor it has been commented also in the press.Its not the first time i have seen kionel richie showing his age and a less than stellar vocal performance .take that were ok but they looked a bit tired to me ..
The way the show was staged and visual effect were outstanding.

The remake is an entertaining movie it is somewhat patchy in that some musical numbers are not powerful or emotional in the way they should be ..having seen it on stage and the original movie version this has a big budget $100 million and it shows in the exterior. scenes and the scope of the camera ...
However I really do feel this is another example where gloss has replaced substance .It's a tragic love story and the central star actors male and female are good but they should.be great ....I didn't feel there was that star quality in the cast choices and with an amazing Bernstein score ...there really.should have been .
Some vocals were good and some let a good song down Yes it modernised the appearance of the original but Spielberg hasn't made a truly memorable movie here just a satisfactory one

Eveything that made the original joyful Mary Poppins musical stay in our hearts for 5 decades is absent here...
Its not that you can't take enjoyment with this new Disney follow up. Its basically not terrible in any one area story, songs lead actor performances, presentation..
The director and studio try to reassure the audience from the opening moments by reminding you of all the classic original elements
Mary Poppins Returns is lacking the lovable central performances(Mary Poppins and Bert) and genuinely funny moments that made the Disney original Mary Poppins magic.
This film has already and will make a lot of money..thanks to Walt Disneys brilliant Julie Andrews version But it will not, I feel, live on in the hearts and minds of young and old . The test of time . SONGS are dull without even one catchy tune to take home with you In your head. Also the whole thing looks like it's been forced to revisit the past without adding the spoon full of sugar or magic to make this a worthy update . Such an adequate attempt.. Sadly not a great one
