Mario is likely one of the most underrated excellent LGBTQ films ever made. Unlike box office fan favorites such as Brokeback Mountain and Call me by your name, Mario is a Swiss/German film with two modestly unknown actors (at least in US) that captivate the screen and not unlike Timothee Chalamet take their roles to new heights. This film captures everything I love about a good story. The two leads are strong actors that do not try to outshine one another. Moreover, the story is cohesive and well written and never attempts to try for more than it is. This film is HIGHLY recommended.

I understand why some folks are marking down this movie as I have issues with the ending, but overall this film is a MUST SEE for those of us who believe in good film making and strong acting as well as a cohesive well written story. Both leads are strong and the story is written to help the most ardent skeptics believe in something bigger. I would love to see this film receive critical acclaim, but it will not because the ending is loose and undercuts the film, but again do yourself a favor and tune in.

As I watched this film at my friends home I soon realized while I continued to pass over it on any streaming service. The fact it was nominated for an Oscar for Best Picture solidifies my belief that Oscar is simply a popularity contest in Hollywood. It's contrite premise that a popular artist would just happen to find only a drag bar open and then fawn over its only female act is not only disgusting to the senses, but completely a false narrative. The film deteriorated on a ominous trajectory from the opening scene. It's laughable that it garner so much attention.

Fast forward to JG scenes and you will be fine otherwise absurd waste of time.
