As a homebirth attendant I was truly moved by the opening of this movie. The acting is gorgeous. My pulse raced as if I were there. Where this movie goes wrong is that the majority of homebirths are attended by at least 2 skilled people. Not just one person. I also didn't appreciate that the movie seemed more about suing a healthcare provider instead of the actual grieving process. There can be so many reasons that an event like this happens. Almost NEVER, is it because the midwife was neglegent. In a year where there is a pandemic and more people are seeking out of hospital birth (because hospitals are full and people are frightened), I am saddened that this movie will put unwarranted fear into pregnant folks.
I understand that this is an important topic. It just seems so poorly timed.
