Feedback is for the REMIX version which adds an additional fifteen hours minimum of content to the game in the form of new cars, a new city map, new race events, and extra music and the only version I've experience with.
One of the best racing games there is, for those that like arcade and sim style racing in a mesh convergence form factor, but in comparison to the previous game, Midnight Club 2, there are some features that were removed/nerfed, and some that were added/improved, such as the race editor; checkpoints can be placed anywhere, but creating a multi-lap unordered race crashes the game, and having multiple checkpoints makes the AI become absolutely stupid and makes winning races fairly simple. Also, the component known as limited time is gone from all of Midnight Club 3, including the race editor, with exception to an Arcade Mode race type that has preset checkpoints set to a specific amount of time to be added, which cannot be customized short of number of laps, and traffic density (no AI opponents).
The gameplay is as tough as one would expect from the MC games, progressing steadily as more stuff is unlocked, though depending on what is unlocked in what order, difficulty jumps, leaps and spikes can be experienced, which can actually make further progress very difficult if not impossible, and there's no real way to scale back the difficulty either. This was not present in MC2 because progression was very linear, whereas the only linear progression in MC3 is unlocking cities, in which the main story has three, San Diego, Atlanta, and Detroit by unlocking order. REMIX adds Tokyo Challenge, which is a map from MC2 given a complete overhaul (and has more flexibility in the race editor than the others), and this challenge allows one to start it any given time after starting Career (or actually one could start the challenge first but would be at a disadvantage due to Tokyo Challenge progress being locked to Career progress), with a new (and quite comedic) storyline to follow, with progress being more linear than Career.
Console differences: XBOX allows one to use music stored on the XBOX as the in-game BGM, like many other titles. Other than that, there's little to no difference.
Overall, a great racing game, but not recommended as a first racing game, and I wouldn't give this game to someone very young unless they're prepared for some of the less-than stellar humor/references to various culture wars nonsense. I also don't recommend this game to racing enthusiasts because those will not find the customization options very satisfying, nor the overall gameplay, but if ya like games such as Ridge Racer, this would be right up your alley.
