Just finished reading “Gingerbread” by Helen Oyeyemi today. i was hoping for a more clear cut conclusion, but it is up to ourselves to sort out the authors meaning and intent.
All sides of human nature are portrayed. The margins of reality and projections of hopes are blurred. Some of the characters seem to be living in a make believe fairytale world controlled by external surreal cues. Self acceptance, communication, and real choices bring happiness and healthier relationships to the characters in the end.
I found it tedious to plow through the text. The book was well written and plenty of content missed the first time waiting for discovery the second read.
