Hilarious & poignant portrait of our times

This film covers important philosophical ground and is a great companion to Ghost Town, which I’ve also watched repeatedly. Are there good lies? How does religion flourish? Are inherited characteristics more important than acquired ones? All great questions, but the greatest one hides within the movie that you must see

Not for everyone, obviously, but if you’re literate & in the mood for deep allegorical thinking, then it’s firmly within your wheel house. There are so many intriguing threads of interwoven dark themes that this unsettling masterpiece will stay with you long past the end credits on the order of Shirley Jackson’s The Lottery.

Environmental Apocalypse with a poignant theme that reviews seem to miss completely. “Pole fracking by energy companies that causes the tilt of the earth to change unleashing zombies all the while spokespeople spinning it as no big deal. Sound familiar? Tom Waits as a nature guru watching & commenting that we were all just consumption zombies anyway. Perfect for misanthropes like myself. The joke is on us folks and you just don’t get it!

Pompous Sacrilege masquerading as socially relevant. It lessens it’s source material & references instead of bolstering. The violence waxes gratuitous & self-effacing while remaining somehow faux-triumphant. A mixed-up mess that the comically challenged will probably love.
