This is a fabulous show. Perhaps the first of its kind that is very grounded in how the Mughals truly lived. In other words - it is probably the first time on the Indian screen that you get an idea in terms of - what the reality of the harem life really was (never hinted at in Mughal-e-azam - highly sanitised version) - the closeness of the bonds developed between Rajputs and Mughals - the reality of Prince Salim and his hopeless addiction to wine and opium (he was not a romantic but an addict) - the reality of ulema's constant resentment against Akbar's policy of toleration towards all faith... Those who complain that this is not grounded in reality have never really read a complete book on Mughals. But get the history from Mughal-e-Azam and/or Jodha Akbar. Both highly misleading representations of whatever happened... This is not to say everything is accurate. Writers have taken some liberties (Murad died in Deccan campaign not in Ajmer; Abu Fazl is not probably not as devious as portrayed; Abdul Rahim one of the most important courtiers is completely missing). Daniyal was as hopeless an addict as Salim and there is no mention anywhere of him being a namazi...And plus some areas the writing is a bit lax. But easily one of the best series t have come out on the Mughals. Much better than Empire, and other soaps. And much more accurate than Mughal-e-Azam or Jodha Akbar (both movies were extremely sanitised presentation of Mughals). Solid 4 star and a great start. CRITICS are STUPID...Dont listen to them...
