I've just watched the first episode and I will continue to watch it- however, so far it seems like a total failure. I've been reading reviews that blame the negative reviews on 'the protagonists being POC' or the focus on lgbtq. This is simply not the case. 2021 GG tries desperately to replicate the essences of previous characters- Max Wolfe who has clearly been modelled after Chuck Bass and Otto who plays the nice guy, obviously inspired by our beloved Dan Humphrey. It lacks originality- and what the show lacks in depth of characters and plot it tries to make up for with an overly dramatised, pretentious, shallow and unbelievable story line. You don't need to compare 2021 gossip girl to 2007 gg to see how dull it is. The intense obsession with influencers and social media presence is also incredibly boring and uninspired. I'll keep watching to see if my outlook changes- if it does I'll update, though that's looking rather unlikely.
