This show is addictive.
The casting is impeccable.
The writers... What's going on?
I expect a certain amount of tweaking to adapt to a television format but for the first time I felt they had gone too far in their editing of Dianna Gabaldons story.
The big mistake for me was cramming a lengthy book into 13 episodes.
No time to invest in the new characters.
The first let down was Brianna going through the stones and not meeting her extended family. Replaced by a different storyline.
I forgave that when I heard that the actress playing Jenny was unavailable.
Brianna a smart girl going through the stones in Winter in a flimsy outfit no gloves or a hat and scarf?
Roger an historian and Brianna having studied history at Harvard they have travelled through time? No reference to that except for a conversation between Brianna and Claire.
The biggest let down.
In the book and in season 2, Claire gives birth in the 1950s with no say in how her child is born.
Bullied by the medics placed under anesthesia against her wishes.
In the book Claire delivers Briannas baby with Brianna insisting that her father attends the birth.
Given that in the fifties, men were not allowed to see the birth, this would have been a major bonding event for all concerned.
This is about time travel. The 20th century characters and their reactions to their change of century are barely referenced.
The native Indian storyline especially Otter Tooth skimmed over.
I am still a fan and there are more positive things to say than my narrative would suggest.
Please writers take note.
Don't rush this beautifully crafted book.
