I read Mary Poppins as a child and was enthralled. I loved her and my little girl imagination fleshed her out. Julie Andrews is a great Julie Andrews and a great Trapp, but somehow she didn't embody Mary Poppins for me. Emily Blunt does it perfectly, wonderfully magical but also somehow more real in the role. (I could be the only person in the world who wasn't convinced with Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins, though.) Can't help but wonder how the author felt about the movie - don't know if she's still alive.
