Frankly, I didn't care for this film. It has the awe inspiring visuals and audio of a modern hard Sci-Fi classic like "The Martian" but with none of the substance or heart. The central premise of a son following in this father's footsteps by becoming a explorer of space and then setting off on a voyage to reunite with said father who is stranded in a space station around Neptune has zero emotional payoff.
Furthermore, there where a few plot holes that completely took me out of the experience. The biggest being why the hell was Brandt Pitt's character not Court Marshaled and thrown in jail for disobeying orders, unlawfully ccommandeering a space craft, and getting the crew of said space craft killed. Sure, he completed there mission for them but that doesn't make up for the needless lose of life. At the end of the film, he should be dragged away in handcuffs raither then given a scene of him possibly reconnecting with his wife.
In short, I don't recommend this movie. There are a lot of great realistic space films released over the last few years; watch one of them instead.
