The movie is deeply painful to watch on a movie screen more than a 100 years later. That is truely a feather in the cap of the director Shoojit Sircar and the lead actor Vicky Kaushal, considering we read about Udham Singh and about his shooting of O'dwyer in our history books all through school, and eventually reduced it to a date and an event to remember for the exams. Udham Singh's audacity, boldness, utter conviction, fearlessness and strategizing is masterfully portrayed by Sircar and Kaushal. His friendship with Bhagat Singh, his single minded trek through the snowy wilderness of Russia, his clarity of thought, his refusal to incriminate anyone else even under worse than third degree torture were things that I wish we had found in our school history books as well! I would recommend Vicky Kaushal for the 2021 National Award for best actor without a second's hesitation!
