I enjoy Match of the day, particularly last Saturdays programme and that was because of the comments from Danny Wilson and Tim Cahill-who I think are the best pundits around. The use of Var is proving to be a serious distraction to the enjoyment of many games. The decision to give a red card to the West Brom player was innappropriate and seriously affected the performance of West Brom. Both Tim's and Danny's comments were spot on. I would like MOD to encourage all pundits to be stronger in their criticisms of the use of Var. In my opinion the game has lost some of its magic by delaying the decision on whether a goal is valid or not and spotting incidents that a referee has missed. The supposed scientific basis for Var's authority has been proved on numerous occasions when it has been quite clear that human judgements applied.
I think the authority of the referee should be reinstated, acknowledging that inevitable disputes will follow but accepting that all human interactions are subject to varied interpretations/judgements.The game of rugby sets an example by the authority of the referee in their games, which teams invariably accept without hostility that teams frequently show to referees in football matches.
MOD has a big following and its pundits are seriously listened to. I would like to see more attention given to the impact that var has had and that Danny and Tim are given more time to analyse matches.
