One of the best of western series. Beautiful writing, full of sublime emotion. The politics of survival dictate cooperation and sharing. Something to be learned here. There is an honesty in the key relationships, a raw individual caring between them. It’s encouraging to see. If Yellowstone is a modern day Dallas, 1883 is Wagon Train stripped of all its veneer.

I moved to london for 5 months in 1974, on my way to the liberation wars in Tanzania. I met most of the people depicted in this episode as a naive 20 year old with no experience abroad and a solid politics mission. I loved the art direction, there is a flatness of imagery that i remember as being ver representative of the overcast days in london.
Such wonderful performances. Nostalghic, newfound respect for the journey of Darcus Howe. So good to see CLR JAMES on film.

Tom Hanks heroic portrayal of a ships captain at the head of a supply and troop convoy pursued by German Nazi submarines, is the kind of compelling film I love. Hanks say more in silence, with face frozen in thought conveys more emotional dialogue than anything one could write.

Ultimately a satisfying Oater in the traditional sense. Seems out of place in 2020 almost. The kid, the kid, and the right of passage to man. i get that. The relationship between pat and Billy has always been played as alter egos. Here fates cross, and Billy’s death is a road to a life’s redemption!
