I don't leave reviews usually but I was incredibly excited about this game and then very disappointed.
I love odyssey and black flag. This game missed quite a few marks for me that make assassin's creed great.
PROS
- it's beautiful scenery, it feels unique and immersible
- great plot to pull you in, great characters and interactions
- the dice game you can play is amazing
- I love the Norse mythology woven through out
CONS
- the requirement to constantly fill up on rations to prevent desynchronization is terrible and absolutely ruined battle for me. I don't want to worry about having food to eat when I'm fighting. It's probably the worst part of the game. It's not fun to look for rations. It's not fun to stop fighting to look for rations. It's stupid.
- the upgrades and loot suck in this game. They are few and far between and it isn't frankly worth it to bother killing anyone.
- the fighting is clunky and feels like a much older game.
- this is an assassin's creed games and they completely removed the incentive to assassinate. It doesn't fit in the franchise to me. They wanted to make a viking rpg and used the franchises reputation to ensure it made money. This doesn't fit the franchise to me. It plays like an entirely separate game.
So recap - wish I spent the money on another game but I'll probably end up playing it since I've got it. It's not as bad as AC3.
