I find it incredibly ironic how the prequels were universally hated, and now after 20 years they’ve come to be more appreciated. And now that they’re continuing with the same actors (Ewan and Hayden) and making something that’s technically a prequel, it’s getting a lot of hate again.
The show is good. People have a hard time grasping that they’re trying to like build up to a climax, and that you’re gonna have to wait until every episode is released to get the full context of the show. (At the time of writing only the first 3 episodes have been released) people are acting like what’s been released so far is the entire series, and yeah the first couple episodes are a bit of a slow burn, and kenobi is clumsy and throughout the first half of the show you kinda just want to see him return to the obi wan we knew from revenge of the sith. The thing is HE WILL. This is obviously all building up to a climax at the end, I’m certain he’ll have a second fight with Vader. Just like in Empire, when Luke fails his first fight with Vader, Obi wan fails with his first fight here and only narrowly escapes, but it is PAINFULLY obvious to me that won’t be his last encounter with Vader, just like how empire wasn’t Luke’s last encounter. And I can’t understand why it’s so hard to see. It’s a character arc and honestly a pretty predictable one, it’s been done before: protagonist starts off shut off from the world and unwilling to help anyone or do anything a hero would, throughout the course of the story he learns or in this case relearns how to become the hero and do what’s right, and also grow stronger in the process. It’s pretty straight forward and even tho only 3 episodes have been released as of now, I can pretty much guarantee that’ll be the basic arc for kenobi.
It’s just so frustrating it’s getting this hate without people even waiting for the whole thing to come out.
With all that being said is the show perfect? No there are flaws. The third sister is a bit of a weak antagonist, but there’s more positive aspects than negative ones and it’s still very enjoyable. Star Wars fans are once again proving how intolerable they can be.
