Having spent some time with the first game with my son I was pretty excited get the second game.
It’s better in every way. There’s a large island that you can build to your hearts content, there’s zero limitations here. Just what recipes and materials have you discovered on the other islands (which more like the dragon quest 1 experience of a limited....although bigger this time...build zone). Equipment and tools no longer degrade which is major improvement.
Another reviewer here said that “you need to fix your creativity” with this game. That’s not really true. To complete a quest you have to build a recipe, but so long as it meets the minimum requirements you succeed. For just building you can build whatever you want, provided you have the materials (either by making them or finding them).
At the EOD it’s a JRPG fused with Minecraft, not Minecraft fused with a JRPG so questing is a must. Story progression is a must. But the end result is pretty satisfying.
It’s a game that I think all ages can enjoy (I’m in my 40s, my son is 6) and if you and you children are gamers then it can be a great living room experience for the family. Split screen coop play would have been nice for this, but just having a single player game with the family giving input on the builds or taking turns is also a blast.
