I and my fiancé went to see Widows Thanksgiving night. Huge Viola Davis fans we thought we were in for a treat. The trailer suggested this would be a non-stop action thriller but we were so disappointed. When we saw the young lady hitting the bag as if she were preparing for a fight, little did we know it was as just her workout regimen. Viola’s wardrobe was beautiful and her acting of course on point but with the story line she was limited.
The other characters were good in their respective roles but they never developed a relationship with Viola’s character...why not? These women all had something in common event. The death of their husbands who worked together and died together. The action was pretty much non-existent and the end left us saying “why did it end that way?” We felt the story lines were under developed and sat through a boring movie. Many got up and left.
I hope Steven Macqueen will take what’s said here into consideration and know just because you have a Viola Davis does not mean you have a blockbuster on your hands. She needs a story to support her phenomenal acting.
