✒️ VISWASAM
Ajith Kumar and Director Siva joined again for the fourth time on a row. Veeram, Vedhalam, Vivegam and now 'Viswasam'. Apparently, it is evident that Director Siva is quite sentimental for his movie title and he ensured that all his films with Ajith start with 'V' and end with 'M'. Being a mass entertainer Thala Ajith believed in Siva's ideologies towards commercial films and gave one last chance to share the success bites with the director. Films like Viswasam may be a successful venture in his career but he need to do something better and different for his huge fan base in future. Viswasam have all the big names in star cast like Nayanthara, Thambi Ramaiah, Robo Shankar, Vivek, Kovai Sarla, Yogi Babu and Jagapathi Babu and Baby Anikha. Director Siva learnt his mistakes from Vivegam and ensured that the script have the right mix of commercial elements and emotional blocks which satisfy both the fan base and the general family audience. However, it is redundant to see the characterization of the main stream actors in Viswasam and it is just a redefined version of Veeram. Ajith plays the Thooku Durai role which is eye-catching. It is always a great feeling to watch him on the big screen for the intro scene and Siva adopted the regular template for one more time to introduce the Mass Hero on screen. Ajith look awesome with his mannerism and trademark gestures which is a visual treat for the Thala Fans. Nayanthara plays the posh Doctor/ Entrepreneur role and she is the perfect choice for the role. The lady superstar steal the show with her flawless performance. As usual she scores well for all emotional scenes and proved her screen presence very strongly. Nayan-Ajith chemistry worked out very well and their little romantic moments are watchable with the family audience. Baby Anikha plays a very critical role in the second half. Infact, she emotes well for the emotional scenes and match her performance with Ajith and Nayan. Jagapathi plays the Antagonist role and he was introduced just before the interval block. Dialogue counters with Thala worked out really well but his role was not demon enough to fight the mighty Thala. Unfortunately, other supporting characters have very less role to play. Though, there is a scope for comedy in first half it went out very flat and it does not bring any laughs. Vivek and Kovai Sarala combination was disastrous in the second half and it does not add any value to the screenplay. Yogi Babu's witty one-liners worked out well but it last for very short time. Robo Shankar and Thambi Ramaiah tried their best to bring out the laughter but it did not work out well with the audience. Ajith himself tried some humor in the first half and to an extend he could able to connect with the audience. Beyond comedy, audience expect his electrifying mass performance with build-up stunts which is quite missing in Viswasam. Also, there is no powerful tussle and counter with Jagapathi Babu but Ajith plays his role with convection and his dialogue delivery and expression for emotional scenes was heartwarming. There are bundle of sentimental scenes in the second half and he did his best with the support of Baby Anikha and Nayanthara. D.Imman's music contribution to this film is bare minimum and below average. Adichi Thookku and Kannana Kanne tracks are the only relief but other songs are just used as fillers. Background score worked out well for the fight scene. DOP by Vetri and he did a decent job for this commercial flick.
Though Viswasam is promising for Ajith's fan club to an extend there are so many flaws in this movie. The plot and storyline was experimented by director for so many times and it is just an extended version of Veeram. Director Siva could not deviate much from the commercial template which makes it very predictable and less engaging.
Overall, Viswasam is a family entertainer and it is worth watching for the heartwarming experience but for the Hardcore Thala Fans the 'Thala Pongal Feast' is just not enough.
