Fair warning, i've played through this game a few times to give it a decent chance but it's still a huge let down. I don't get how people even compare this to fallout or borderlands because it's nowhere near those two franchises. If you want dialogue and a huge open world with a s#%t ton of exploring..i honestly recommend any of the fallout games. This game is just obsidian(who i dearly love for the god-tier game "new vegas")trying to give their fanboys a little tickle on the ball-bag...this will be ranty.
I've put hundreds of thousands of hours into fallout new vegas, and i absolutely adore obsidian for that game alone, but in my honest opinion, "the outer worlds" was just a dropped ball. The trailers for the game is genuinely more exciting than the gameplay itself, within maybe 10 hours you're max level with armor and weapons that pretty much one-shot every enemy besides the final boss, and then there are no sidequests to do by that time, there is absolutely no end-game, the game is super linear compared to obsidians crowning achievement FO:NV.
In all honesty when the world does open up just a tiny tiny bit..there's nothing to explore. You go and explore for a few minutes and you have enough auto hacks and med supplies(meaning mainly food) to last way way longer than anyone could ever need during a playthrough. The voice acting is kind of sub-par, along with the actual facial animations, the general graphics quality and color pallet it good but repetitive. The enemies just don't put up a fight, and the fact you can have 2 companions with you at any time means that you almost don't have to even pull the trigger a majority of the time(if you give them one of the thousands of high damage guns you'll have within a couple hours, that only differs by being a "mkII" or "mkIII" variant of the maybe 10 actual guns in the game).
To re-hash this rambling review, the game is okay for the first playthrough and then it's just all the same stuff with absolutely ZERO end-game. The people who are praising this game and giving it 10/10's are just obsidian fan-boys, i'm a huge obsidian fan-boy but i can look past my love for a developer and admit when a game isn't what it could've and SHOULD have been. This game is fine for anyone who has never played any other RPG, or if you want to just support obsidian studios, but if you're looking for the next fallout new vegas, then sadly this game is not for you.
P.S. Once you kill the final boss you have to reload a save after your slideshow because they didn't expect anybody to play after the torture of actually slogging your way through the boring hellscape that is "the outer worlds"
