I am a very long term fan of Mr.King.. starting over 45 years ago. It's been a while since I read one as his style went from what I consideed macabre and scary to more super natural... which I didn't enjoy as much. The last book I read was IT and was good straight thru until the tunnels.
When I saw Holly on an audiobook selection I grabbed it. The most honest opinion I have is that the story was kinda boring...without twists.. it seemed to just follow along.. Holly followed the trail and the end was not surprising.. in fact a bit predicable, which is not what I am used to compared to the writing I read back in the late 70s and into the 80s.
I did find the soapboxing about covid and vaxing un-meaningful to the story plot but appreciate it was the time and impactful to the characters and as I don't follow social media have no knowledge of Mr.King's political slant nor so I care to know.
Sadly I was not aware of a prior related book so the continued reference to characters and an obvious experience frustrated me a bit.. but that was my own lack of reviewing the book before hand. Honestly, if I had the reviews before I purchased and listened to the book.. I probably wouldn't have bought it.
In all.. wouldn't recommend.. but that's just me. I may have to go read Salem's Lot or the Shining again to reappreciate Mr. King's work.
