Alert: MPU’s first 3-5 episodes were falling more along the 1.5 to 2 star rating due to the bad acting and lack of chemistry between the characters. I will say it found more of its footing during the second half of the season, rounding out at about a 3 star rating. The chemistry could still use some work as well as the actress who plays Sidney looking nothing like a 17 year old (but nothing they can do about that now). I cringed every time they made a promise to find a missing person, isn’t that frowned upon? Hopefully they address that in the next season. Maybe Nikki faces the consequences of making that promise to a family and she has to reckon with that. Seems odd that she makes such a bold promise even though they weren’t able to find her missing son. If it wasn’t for me being invested in finding out more about Keith the show may have lost me in the form few episodes but it kept me locked in along with the action and suspense from the smaller story lines. Would I recommend this to a friend to watch? Probably not. But would I have this playing in the background while I am working, sure thing.

Viola Davis is acting her tail off as always, but add in John Boyega, Lashana Lynch, and the other amazing actors I was introduced to for the first time and you have a recipe for cinema gold. While the run time is a little long for my taste, the entire 2 hours was packed with action, beautiful costumes, wonderful story telling, and fascinating imagery. My point is, was never bored which tends to happen for me in longer movies. The ending was also great and wrapped the story up perfectly.

I enjoy the show and I look forward to seeing how the characters develop, as well as the relationship between the sisters. I do have some unanswered questions that I hope will be addressed in the coming seasons (it's still early) so I will give them the benefit of the doubt and trust that the holes will be filled in season 3. I am not biased towards the original, so to me it just seems like I am watching a new show. Even though I've seen episodes of the original, I didn't watch it religiously. I think most of the bad reviews come from the purists, which I can respect. Also I enjoy the diversity on the show cast, but I want more. Most of the witches and demons are white. However the leads are W.o.c
