I started my son on cinema classics like the original Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and then moved onto the Original trilogy of Star Wars. My 5 year old has now seen all the Harry Potter films although I did keep an eye on him to see he wasn't getting scared of them, however took to them like a duck to water and just really enthusiastic and completely understands they are fantasy. I am perhaps just old fashioned at heart as the original Mary Poppins without a shadow of a doubt with the classic and brilliant Dick van Dyke and Julie Walters was never going to be an easy act to follow, however I have never been left so unimpressed with this sequel. Unlike others, I think the only good thing about the film was Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins. I thought she played it pretty well and certainly looked the part. However the storyline was poor, the acting...sorry Jack was poor. The songs were dreadful and not a patch on the old classics. I know difficult but more time could have been spent on this surely. We regularly as a family put the original Mary Poppins on and still brings a smile to our faces, but hence I fear this will be a one off experience watching the very disappointing sequel. Ah well, hope others enjoyed it more than me.
