I wanted to see this since I grew up with a parent who wanted to be a bodybuilder and saw similarities in his character to that parent. However, I was not expecting it to be this bad.
1. When I saw Zeus was involved, I was like this is going to be bad. And did Zeus even really do any promotion for this?? I guess not since it's not a ghetto 'baddies' show.
2. The acting wasn't really acting. Jonathan literally played himself. And I mean he seems insane and erratic in Real Life. So.... I just felt like he was playing himself in his own Biopic. It was just two hours of him screaming or having a breakdown or being uncomfortably awkward. So anyone saying he played the role well... yeah because he's insane IRL.
3. No substance or consequences. It didn't feel like anything really happened because there was no plot. The movie was all over the place. They barely focus on the bodybuilding aspect. We mainly focus on his Eminem Stan level obsession with another famous bodybuilder. Then him wanting to date
Then him wanting to kill. Then this then that. One minute he's being arrested then he's free and we don't explore that side plot any further. Next minute he has a tumor because he's a steroid monster then he's back to doing steroids with no consequences. Scenes happen and then end as if they never happened. It's insane! Like for instance the scene with Taylor Page, who is an amazing actress, being extremely unnecessary. They showed her in the promos like she was a big part of the film but barely did anything or was in it!
4. Killian was unlikable and didn’t move me. It felt like Oscar bait having a autistic, p0rn addicted, Black, abused bodybuilder be the main character. It could have worked if THERE WAS SUBSTANCE. I didn't feel bad for him or have really any connection to him at all. I actually was laughing when he was acting insane because it was silly. Especially since he didn't have any real consequences to his actions. You can't just have a real life psycho who is trying to have a comeback 'feel bad for me' movie and expect me to buy into it. And the sad part is, a lot of people are.
The moral of the story, it's not good and is only baiting. It could have been something great but is truly a waste of two hours. Don't let the 5 stars lie to you. It's trash and should have never been made by the director or Jonathan.
