An in-depth exploration of the continuity of human ingenuity to discover and understand their world. The book is divided thematically and chronologically. Each chapter is relatively short, but impeccably detailed with an insightful, informative, and interesting historical narrative. As much as I loved the novel, it's very dense and certainly not a book you feel inclined to read 50+ pages in a sitting. That being said, I read a chapter or two each morning or evening before bed and thoroughly enjoyed it. I highly recommend this book.
