I really like battletech games, and this is one of them. It's also co op. I like that. But that's about all to like right now. It's a kind of... campaign? Like game where you play as Commander Buttrock or whatever and you gotta blow up stuff to learn about why the evil space Russians killed your character's poorly explained dad.
Then promptly forget that as the game half tries to get you to be your own character and sandboxes. Which sometimes just doesn't work at all. Either way you have to fight endless emitter spawns of bad guys and some mechs depending on your difficulty level.
It actually reminds me of a co op version of the Super Nintendo version of Battletech more than it reminds me of the mechwarrior series because it's an arcade shoot em up before it's a sim game. Over time as your level gets higher. You have to start specializing your builds to do a very fast TTK for the enemy mechs because light mechs will come at you like swarms of tanks would, and every faction is suddenly willing to spend a company of mechs to attack some poor guy's farm if the difficulty passes 60 or more.
I can see this being better, and in time, it may be. But right now that's all the game is. If you're really up on nostalgia and you want to get together with 3 of your friends (Do not us AI, they'll shoot you more than the enemy) then all of you can buy this game and play for an afternoon.
Oh, and if you were looking for your favorite mechs, they're probably not in this one. The Clans and their mechs are not yet in the game. You can only play as the early inner sphere.
