As an Anne Frank aficionado I naturally turned in to watch "A Small Light", the dramatised true story of Miep Gies, who helped the Frank family, the Van Pels family and Mr Pfeffer hide during occupied Holland. At first I was bothered by the portrayal of Miep as a somewhat frivolous young woman, but the character development showed her impetuous nature mature into decisive and steely action. A couple of details grated - Anne's beloved cat Moortje, whom they had to leave behind, was referred to as male instead of female, and Miep and Jans's surname "Gies" was pronounced as an English person might pronounced it, rather than as a Dutch person would. Also I would have liked more screen time for the other office workers - Bep, Kugler and Kleiman. But on the other hand I really warmed to the character Jan Gies, about whom I had known very little. The end credits should, I feel, have mentioned the awards both Miep and Jan received for their bravery. Notwithstanding these minor issues, I recommend this series as well worth watching.
