This was a fantastically humorous movie when it came out. It's unfortunate that Gilliam's hilarious shot across the bow in 1985 has become our reality after 30+years. The self absorbed vanity of society, bureaucracies so hamstrung by their own red tape, regulations and inability to actually get something done for the betterment of the community they serve, the political polarization of our society, squelching of free speech, full scale terrorism, lust replacing love, legalization of drugs, lack of family and God. If I didn't know better I would think that Mr. Gilliam had been reading 2 Timothy 3.
I can't imagine what some Millennial would think of this movie as the contrasting moments of cerebral thought provoking symbolism and metaphors against the superficial humor would be completely lost and no longer relevant let alone understood as Gilliam's dystopian 'Wonderland' is now too close to our reality.
A great watch and an absolute classic for any fan of Gilliam's work.
