Solar Power is Lorde's worst album. Considering that her past two albums were two of the best of the 2010s, though, that still puts it higher than a lot of albums that came out in 2021. By no means is it a bad album. But I think in the current political and environmental climate, the carefree ambience of the album just kind of doesn't appeal to me. To be honest, in a few years, I'll probably relisten and appreciate it more. I've been seeing the term "sonic diversity" being thrown around and I have to agree that the album lacks it. By the time you get to Secrets from a Girl, most of the album has sort of meshed together into one conglomerate. It's a 50 minute album that feels like it's 2 hours long. A few songs do stand out like Mood Ring, which is a great song. Stoned at the Nail Salon is pretty good, though I cannot relate, being unable to afford weed or a pedicure lol A lot of the fans have torn it to shreds or have even felt betrayed by Lorde. And I just can't be that melodramatic (wink, wink). For me personally, it's two stars. Most of the songs aren't for me, at least not right now. But the quality of the music is good and I think that if you're interested, give it a listen. Which is why I'm going with three. I hope that in time I come to like it more and that Lorde's next album is still made on her terms. She's an artist and shouldn't be pressured into making music she just doesn't want to anymore. Regardless, I'm looking forward to the next one. <3
