Pitt's performance was as flat as the tone and pacing of this aspiring epic that does not clear the bar it has set for itself. Little visual moments reference much better films that inspired it, that only accentuate the emotional and dramatic hollowness of the project. Another lead, a stronger score and a different director could have got more out of this, but it would always be a pale immitation of Nolan's Interstellar, which is a much better use of a viewer's time.
