Awful. Unbelievable. Divisive. Objectifying. Gross.
I'm fairly certain a group of hardened just-escaped criminals wouldn't talk the same way as the men in this movie did. The dialogue was this weird pastiche of low-brow locker room ideational misogyny...it was clunky and cringe-worthy. Just rage, hate and sexualization dialled up to 11, for no good reason.
We get it. Men suck and have no redeeming qualities.
THIS MOVIE COULD HAVE BEEN GOOD. Maybe not great, as the plot twists were somewhat ridiculous, but good. If the narrative of the movie was toned down to something approaching reality, the feminist view would've been disseminated and points would've been landed. Instead, viewers are brow-beaten with almost embarassing attacks on men in every conceivable way, and it makes the female side seem so much more toxic than it should be.
I won't leave spoilers here, even for an awful movie. Suffice it to say that if soldiers had acted the way these men did in the real WW2, the Allies would've lost the war.
Netflix sponsoring something like this, and other movies of its ilk is making me reconsider my years long subscription.
It's that bad.
