Although better than the other star wars movies over the last decade, the film lacks imagination and excitement. The storyline is plagued with themes already experienced in previous episodes and is lacking a true antagonist the likes of Darth Vader. What's left is a CGI spectacle of excess (e.g. starships that leave smoky trails in outer space) and a storyline that lacks any surprises (e.g. the good guys always win in the end). In fact, maybe it would have been more exciting to have the story actually have a twist here or there... for instance, maybe Ray should have become the sith lord at the end... it would have given a real antagonist to the story ... and no, Palpatine does not fulfill this role properly. We need a new Darth Vader, or better yet, bring him back. Otherwise, Disney can continue to flush their billion-dollar investment down the drain.
