What a beautiful book! Fine storytelling that holds you almost spellbound and never wanting to put it down. A bit of mystery and a bit of well... kind of but not really - magic, woven into a poignant but altogether heartwarming tale of love. I said poignant but the only time I was sad was when I closed One Upon A River for the last time (for now.) This is a richly told storyteller’s tale intricately woven into life set on the Thames. Many others will give a summary so I will skip that but if you want a truly beautiful, cozy, poignant but overall charming and life-affirming story told in the most enchanting way, pick up this book! Bravo, Diane Setterfield. I enjoyed The Thirteenth Tale quite a bit but this was so much better. Read it.
