Jean Valjean's part was played with force and there were a few other strong performances. However I struggled to get to episode three. A pity as the story is powerful and timeless. I felt this was far too BBC and less Victor Hugo. Disappointing. With the correct (for the period) casting, it would have worked much better. A poor offering overall and I would rate this production only 3 out of 10. Maybe they could have taken Hugo's theme and done an honest but modern adaption of his work? As it was, it did not hold together for me and that is such a pity as the story is powerful and full of hope.
