I watched the 1973 version a few days ago by chance, loved it, and so thought I'd watch this one too. Wow, was I disappointed. It falls short of the original in every conceivable category. from Charlie Hunnam's totally perfect grooming (consistent from start to finish of his gritty life sentence), to the lack of any emotional content or depth in the majority of scenes. I hate the cliche of "the original was wayyyy better", but I don't think I have ever found an example where it has been more true.
