This is a great book for kids of all ages! It follows Meleah as she searches for her calling in life, all while being ridiculed by her classmates. As she quickly loses hope and confidence in herself, her dad shares his story of his personal struggles to prove she, too, can be whatever and whoever she wants to be. This story is very relatable and can thusly inspire hope to kids to follow their dreams and discourage them from putting down others.
As the reader gets older, the short background story about the author becomes an important piece of the story as well. One can understand how Newell's own struggles have influenced this book which then provides living proof that you can achieve anything! It is a very powerful backstory to read and even rang true to my own past as well.
This book deserves a spot on your shelf and to be taken down in times of happiness and of hopelessness, before bedtime and the first day of school, and after bad days and graduation. It is a constant reminder that you are a star upon a dream!
