Survival story that too based on real-life events is always fascinating to watch. Adrift is a real-life survival drama based on the harrowing incident that happened to Tami Oldham Ashcraft and her fiancé Richard Sharp while they were on a trip to deliver a yacht from Tahiti to San Diego.
The screenplay unfolds in a nonlinear way back and forth in time. In the present day, the yacht has met with an accident during the hurricane and Tami is hurt but she could not find Richard. The present-day storyline deals with desperateness caused by the disaster while the past storyline deals with how Tami and Richard met and basically the love story between them this part of the story is lively and full of love and adventures.
Now, this is a disaster movie and the plotline and theme are similar to many other movies of similar genre but the best thing about this movie is that the movie is not just a survival drama it is equally an emotional love story and there is a perfect balance between these two. The narrative seems familiar but Shailene Woodley’s compelling performance keeps you invested in this movie. Her performance is so real that you can feel her anger, desperation, love, hope and literally all other emotions that she is going through in the course of the film. Another strong aspect of the movie is Cinematography. Robert Richardson as the cinematographer has done a fabulous job.
I would recommend you to watch this movie once because real life survival films are always worth watching as it inspires you and gives you a different perspective on your life.
